According to Paiute legend To-when-an-ung-wa, the Legend People, lived

before Native Americans inhabited the land, and their wasteful consumption

attracted the ire of the powerful God, Coyote, and he invited them to a great

feast where he promised them food for an entire day.  The legend people dressed

in their most colorful clothing and sat down to take part in the feast.  Before they

took their first bite Coyote cast a spell and turned them all to stone.

These images capture souls of various sorts, trapped in their ways.  Until very

recently I could have been one of those hoodoos so I enjoy this particular

interpretation of the Paiute Legend.  For many personal reasons it took me over one

year to start combing through these images and consider showing them.

After every storm these figures change, disappear, and reappear as different faces.

Artist Statement:

I elevate the smaller elements in the natural world to center stage,

illuminating patterns of light, texture and motion amidst the unusual in nature.
